FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NEWARK BOYS CHORUS JOINS ARS MUSICA CHORALE IN CONCERT –
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2011 AT 8 PM

Ars Musica Chorale will usher in the season with its annual Holiday Concert on Friday, December 16 at the chorus’s principal venue, West Side Presbyterian Church, 6 Monroe Street, Ridgewood, New Jersey at 8 PM.  The Chorale is continuing its theme of “Collaborations” for the 2011-12 season.  For this Holiday Concert and in keeping with this theme, the Newark Boys Chorus will be joining with Ars Musica in a traditional Christmas program.  Tickets purchased in advance are $20 and can be purchased from a chorus member or on line at www.arsmusica.org.  Tickets purchased at the door will be $25; children under 12 are admitted free.  For more information, please see our website or call 973 628-8793.

The Chorale will be singing the Christmas Portion of Handel’s Messiah and other selections fit for the holiday season.  Members of the audience will be invited to join with the chorus in singing some favorite, well-known carols.   Excerpts from Messiah include “And the Glory of the Lord”, “For Unto Us a Child is Born” and the “Hallelujah Chorus”, along with solo numbers from Handel’s great masterpiece.  The chorus and soloists will be accompanied by members of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra on strings and trumpet, and harpsichord, organ, and piano.  Also featured on the program are Christmas Day, a lovely medley of carols expertly woven together by Gustav Holst, Morton Lauridsen’s beautiful “O Magnum Mysterium”, and “Go Tell It on the Mountain”, sung by the male members of the chorus. Another lively work is “Sing de Chorus,” a Jamaican carol that is a favorite of the Newark Boys Chorus.  A special moment in the concert will be the world premiere of “Deep in the Falling Leaves of Night,” composed by Paul Janssen, who formerly sang tenor in Ars Musica Chorale.

Ars Musica Chorale is delighted to continue its association with the Newark Boys Chorus. The school is a leading institution for academics and music for boys in grades four through eight.  The Concert Chorus performs throughout the United States and around the world on its triennial music tour. The boys have had life-changing opportunities and experiences including meeting the Pope on a European tour and singing with Sting in 2010.  Ars Musica Chorale will join with the Boys Chorus in the Holst piece and other carols.

Ars Musica Chorale has as its motto “Bringing the art of choral music to life.”  It continues to bring an enviable sound and musicianship to every performance.  Led by its outstanding conductor, Mr. Robert Long, this concert is sure to get everyone into the holiday spirit.
