Hailed by the New York Times for her “extraordinary virtuosity and elegance, clinic ” emerging soprano Marie Marquis is an artist who always seeks to marry poetry with exquisite musical line. An avid singer of new music, Marie honed her vocal skills this summer at Songfest in LA, singing in an array of concerts. Last year she was a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, where she was at home performing early baroque as well as world premiere works. Recent opera roles include Mabel in “The Pirates of Penzance”, Josephine in “HMS Pinafore,” Myrthis in Rameau’s one-act “Nelée et Myrthis”, Belinda in “Dido and Aeneas,” Pamina in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” and Miriam in Frank Bridge’s “A Christmas Rose.”

Marie holds bachelors degrees in Music and French from Peabody Conservatory and Johns Hopkins University and a masters degree in vocal arts from Bard College. Marie is a black belt in tae kwon do, and she enjoys knitting, hiking, and baking cinnamon rolls.
