New York City-based mezzo soprano Tara Gruszkiewicz recently performed the role of Waltraute in Die Walküre at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, in concert with New York Lyric Opera Theatre. In past NYLOT seasons, Tara appeared as La zia principessa (Suor Angelica), 1st Norn (Götterdämmerung), Carmen, Dorabella, Hansel, Nicklausse, Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito), Le prince charmant (Cendrillon), and the Duchess (The Gondoliers). Other roles include Miss Todd (The Old Maid and the Thief), and Nettie Fowler (Carousel).
Tara has appeared as soloist in several sacred works in the tristate area, including Verdi’s Requiem, Faure’s Messe basse, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Saint-Saens’s Christmas Cantata, and Haydn’s Missa in tempore belli. <br>Equally comfortable on the operatic, sacred, musical theater, and cabaret stages, Tara recently musically directed and starred in the successful cabaret series “The Henry’s Staff Sing for Your Supper” at the eponymous Upper West Side bistro.
A native of Naugatuck, Connecticut, Tara received her Master’s degree from Manhattan School of Music. Tara now studies in the studio of Patricia McCaffrey. Aside from her music career, Tara is a budding NYC restaurateur and sommelier.
