While Messiah may be Handel’s most familiar work, no other oratorio can match the sheer drama of Israel in Egypt. Handel paints a compelling musical picture of the ten plagues of Egypt as the chorus declaims about frogs, flies, and locusts. Last performed by the chorale in 1980, Israel in Egypt utilizes the chorus more prominently than any other Handel oratorio, making for an exhilarating audience experience and a notorious test of stamina for any choir.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
